Baseball Pregame
Steven M. Miller Jr, Staff Writer
The Comment is here live at the Baseball game bringing you the latest information that is available. Here is a couple of pieces of information that we have for you prior to the games start:
-I spoke with Director of Facilities, Keith McDonald and he said that the field looked good to play on, but it is still a little soft out there (especially in the outfield). He said that there was a frost last night and it was quite a challenge to get both the softball and baseball field in playing condition because a frost brings water back up. The grounds crew started their work at about 11 am this morning to get the field ready for 1:30 pm.
"Things are always tentative in this season, when it comes to playing games.", said McDonald.
-Today's starter is Ben Altman, from Taunton, MA. Altman was a catcher in high school and pitched a couple of games in high school. He told me that he is really excited to get the nod for this afternoons game.
Altman has one appearance on the season coming out of the bullpen. His record is 0-0 on the season, with a 3.00 ERA pitching 3 innings, with a strikeout and a walk.
-Representing the office of the President is Mr. Bryan Baldwin and he will be throwing out the games ceremonial opening pitch. The ball was signed by all the members of the team this past Wednesday. He is the Assistant to the President for Communications and Public Affairs.
-The wind is blowing at 16 MPH from the right to the left at game time. Weather.com says gusts could reach up to 29 MPH. It is also currently 53 degrees and it is expected to be clear the rest of the afternoon.
-A recording of Coach Rick Smith's wife was played as the national anthem.
We will update you with the final score and highlights from the Baseball, Softball games. In addition, we will also post the score to today's Women's Lacrosse game and Men's Tennis matches. Softball has a double header versus Babson College, Tennis takes on Roger Williams, and the Women's Lacrosse team takes on Salve Regina.
