Baseball to play Framingham State

Steven M Miller Jr, Staff Writer

-In what has been a very crazy week for the baseball team (weather wise), the team is scheduled to play tomorrow versus Framingham State, for their second league double-header this season. The 5-7 Rams enter the game having not played a single game in two weeks. Their last game was a sweep from MASCAC opponent Fitchburg State. If the weather holds up, Bridgewater State is scheduled to face Westfield State (at Westfield) on Monday. Rain and snow are currently predicted for Sunday and Monday's weather.

The Bears will turn to #3 starter Dennis Jenette in game 1. Jenette is 1-1 on the season with a 3.78 ERA in 16.2 innings. In 3 appearances and 2 starts, he has allowed 2 walks and struck out 6 batters.

The starter in game 2 will be freshman Spencer Hatstat. In one start and three appearances, Hatstat is 2-0 on the season with a 0.69 ERA in 14.1 innings. He has given up an 4 walks and whiffed 14 batters.

-It went unreported on the blog, but the Bears split a series on Wednesday with #7 ranked (nationally) and #1 regionally ranked Wheaton College. Senior Ace right-hander Jordan Richards took his fourth loss of the season in a well pitched game. He went the distance and pitched the whole game in a 2-1 loss.

In the second game, the Bears won 3-2. Sophomore Dave Liffers won his fourth strait decision, and he pitched very well. He pitched a complete game giving up two earned runs on 5 hits. He had 5 strikeouts and walked one.

Freshman third baseman Mark Claffey went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI in the game. Junior catcher Kelly LaDow went 2-for-3 with a run batted in.

A full recap is right here.

-Walked on the field today and there are puddles in the outfield, in random spots. I spoke with Associate Athletic Director Mike Storey, this afternoon, and he said it was a lot worse, earlier this morning. Holes have been placed all over the field to help out with the drainage situation.

For practice today, the hitters got some swings in at the Tinsley Center and the pitchers ran a mile, on the indoor track.

-Brigewater State has had 4 games cancelled this season. They were supposed to play Umass Boston (rescheduled 3 times before cancelling), Brandies (this past Friday), Southern Maine (game was snowed out), and Suffolk. Hopefully the Bears can get enough games in or else they will not be eligible for post-season play.
