Matt Charest Named Little East Men's Tennis Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College sophomore Matt Charest has been named the Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week as he helped BSC remain undefeated on the season with wins last week against Little East rivals UMass-Dartmouth and UMass-Boston..

A native of Somerset, Massachusetts, Charest sported a 2-0 mark in singles and doubles competing out of the number one spot in both flights last week. In the Bears' 9-0 win over UMass-Dartmouth, he overpowered his singles opposition in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) and teamed with Matt Kelly to win in doubles, 8-5. On April 14th, Charest knocked off his opponent from UMass-Boston in straight sets (6-2, 6-0), and teamed with Kelly for an 8-3 doubles victory.

On the season, Charest is currently 3-1 in singles play and 4-0 in doubles competition as his Bears (4-0 overall, 2-0 LEC) are tied for first a top the Little East standings along with Southern Maine. In two seasons at Bridgewater State, Matt has a career singles record of 11-4 and a 10-3 mark in doubles play while competing out of the top flight in each.
